Humans in their environment - this has always been a highly complex system, which is closely related to resources and technologies. Different to straight forward consumption-oriented pioneer periods, nowadays an arising awareness against non-reflected utilization of resources and purely economy-driven implementation of technologies may be noticed. However, development and implementation of adapted processes and appropriate technologies for sustainable management of resources is a challenge and requires as well profound technological know-how as understanding of sociological and legal frameworks.

Starting with winter term 2023, the English Master's programme Environmental Systems Sciences/Climate and Environmental Monitoring (ESS/CEM) qualifies for these issues. Therefore, this programme provides research-oriented training with focus on analysis and assessment of environmentally relevant physical-chemical parameters, geoscientific aspects and sustainable development as well as monitoring/controlling of technological processes with regard to European/global regulations and system-analysis by data-based modelling.

An important feature of the Master Programme ESS/CEM is the need for each student to go into details in one out of three special areas, either in Environmental Screening (Chemistry, Geosciences) or Environmental Cycles in Hydro- and Lithosphere (Geosciences) or Clean Technology and Sustainable Energy (Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Technologies).

 

Ideal prerequisites for admission to the Master Programme ESS/CEM are completed Bachelor Programmes in Environmental System Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering and Geosciences. The language of instruction is English. Graduates will be awarded the academic degree of “Master of Science” (“MSc”).

Admission

Academic year 2022/23 and 2023/24: There will be no individual admission procedure. General admission requirements will be assessed.
